Prof. Eric-Paul Pâques, PhD was born in 1954 in Namur/Belgium. He studied chemistry at the Université Catholique de Louvain and graduated with a doctorate under the advisement of Prof. Dr. R. Huber (Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry, Munich) and Prof. R. R. Crichton (Louvain). In 1980 Prof. Pâques moved to Behringwerke AG in Marburg, where he worked as Head of Research until 1993. After his habilitation in 1990 he took up a teaching position as an invited professor in Louvain. Since 2000 he is teaching at RWTH Aachen.

From 1994 to 1997 he was appointed Head of Research and Development at Grünenthal. In 1998 Prof. Pâques was appointed member of the Executive Board with responsibilities for R&D and Worldwide Alliances and Partnering at Grünenthal. From May 2009 to July 2010 he was responsible for the corporate division Global Products with the functions Global Research, Global Development, Global Business Development & Licensing, Corporate Patents, Strategic Portfolio Development, Global Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance & Quality Assurance. He is now President Grünenthal Innovation & Chief Alliance Officer and Vice-Chairman of the Corporate Management Board.
