Doing things differently: Much more than promoting products

Employee Portait: Sales representative Abigail Martínez
Abigail Martínez is a sales representative with a strong sense of commitment. By getting close to healthcare professionals and actively supporting treatments, she makes a meaningful and measurable positive impact on the wellbeing of patients in her local community.

Abigail is a sales representative for Grünenthal with more than two decades of experience and with a strong sense of commitment. In her daily work around Tarragona, Spain, she goes far beyond promoting products. That includes working with medical professionals to make sure treatments are provided correctly. “Seeing the positive results for patients fills me with pride,” she says.

This hands-on approach is typical of Abigail’s passion for doing things differently. “It is no coincidence that Grünenthal is recognised as a leader for pain management,” she says. “Our top-level professionals are great people with a real commitment to making the world better.”

That commitment is built into every aspect of her job. Abigail keeps medical professionals up to date about innovative medicines, while also listening closely to understand the specific needs of doctors and patients. She believes Grünenthal stands out because its people understand pain is more than a symptom. “In our training sessions, for example, we address sensitive topics that other pharmaceutical companies often overlook—like grief and family support,” she says.

Abigail places a sharp focus on building trust-based relationships with healthcare professionals. These relationships form the basis of their collaborative efforts to bring real change into patients’ lives by working together, side by side. “This human-centric approach sets us apart from our competitors,” she says. “And it has earned Grünenthal its solid and respected reputation.”

A recently published book shows how Abigail puts this approach into action. She worked with over a dozen osteoporosis specialists to create a document that blends storytelling with scientific insights. Osteoporosis: Unveiling the Voice of the Silent Disease aims to raise awareness about this disease and promote the latest methods for preventing it. Since it hit the shelves, healthcare professionals have contacted Abigal to express their support and gratitude.

The book’s authors are donating royalties to a research team at the University of Tarragona. Together with seven European partners, these scientists have developed a biosensor that analyses genetic variants associated with osteoporosis. “It can identify people with a genetic predisposition for the disease based on a single finger prick within 15 minutes,” Abigal says. “That enables preventive strategies to reduce fracture risk and improve patients’ quality of life.”

Abigail Martínez is not a nurse, but she makes a positive impact on the wellbeing of people in her community. In her work, she combines Grünenthal’s innovative treatments with a people-centric touch. That fills Abigail with pride—and is typical of her passion for doing things differently.
