About Prof. Dr. Heike Rittner

Prof. Dr. Heike Rittner is a senior physician at the Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Pain Management at the University Hospital Würzburg. She holds the Chair of Pain Medicine, is spokesperson for the Centre for Interdisciplinary Pain Medicine (ZiS) and Head of the Molecular Pain Research Group. Her work focuses on the mechanisms behind chronic pain: neurons, molecules, and biological processes involved in pain signalling. Through her expert insights into the latest research, she makes the science of pain accessible including psychological and social factors involved in living with chronic pain.
