Grünenthal Mexico wins award for social and environmental responsibility
The Distintivo ESR® Award recognises outstanding contributions to ethical, environmental and social responsibility – and Grünenthal Mexico received this prestigious prize in 2022! This success shows the positive impact of our dedicated local team.
The global focus on environmental and social responsibility is stronger than ever. Businesses need to step up and play a central role in driving sustainability to achieve progress towards a greener and better future. The Mexican Distintivo ESR® Award recognises companies that embrace this vital responsibility. Each year, it is presented by the Mexican Centre for Philanthropy (Cemefi) and the Foundation for Sustainability and Equality (ALIARSE). Together, they select the winner based on a detailed consideration of how companies implement ethical, environmental and social standards in Mexico. Based on these criteria, they selected Grünenthal as the Distintivo ESR® Award winner for 2022.
For almost 25 years, the dedicated team at Grünenthal Mexico has joined forces to provide a better quality of life for patients – in line with the company’s vision of a world free of pain. The Distintivo ESR® Award 2022 recognises our team’s commitment to balancing economic factors with social and environmental aspects. This includes providing fair working conditions, encouraging personal and professional development, and supporting health and safety. Grünenthal Mexico also promotes reforestation through tree-planting programmes and has cut the need for plastic bottles by installing sustainable water filters. In addition, switching to energy-saving LED lightbulbs has saved more than 20,000 kilowatts of electricity at our sites in Mexico over the last two years.

The Distintivo ESR® Award 2022 is a strong indication of Grünenthal’s positive impact in Mexico. The local team of almost 300 people is now aiming to expand its impact through further activities with a particular focus on poverty, health and hunger – in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Together with their daily work of providing effective medicines to patients across Latin America, this will make sure Grünenthal Mexico continues to play a leading role in driving progress to a greener and more sustainable future.
