Fully charged: All Grünenthal manufacturing sites now powered by 100% green electricity
All five global manufacturing sites are now powered by 100% renewable electricity! This achievement marks a further step forward in our journey toward a greener future and reinforces our commitment to reducing our impact on the planet.
Why does this matter?
Energy is one of the most significant contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, and climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time. From 2022 to 2023, we reduced our energy consumption by 7.7%, thanks to the hard work of teams across the business, who have been gathering data and optimising efficiency. But we knew that reducing energy use was only part of the solution – we needed to change the source of our energy, too. And now, we’ve done it!
Our 100% renewable journey
With the collaboration of our Environment, Health and Safety team and colleagues across Grünenthal, we’ve completed the switch to 100% renewable electricity at all five manufacturing sites worldwide. Whether it’s wind, solar, or other renewable sources that we buy in or come from our facilities, we’re now running entirely on green electricity, helping to cut our carbon footprint and protect the climate. As part of our transformation, we’ve installed solar panels at Origgio, Aachen and our Swiss API site, providing clean, sustainable energy that powers our operations. Our API site in Switzerland also sources the electricity needed for our processes from a local hydropower system. Our Quito site became Grünenthal's first facility to achieve 100% green energy across all operations.
This is a huge win for all of us. We will continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. We’re not just powering our business – we are powering a brighter, greener future for everyone!
