Building trust with the financial community

Matt Crabb, Head Internal Communication talking to the Grünenthal Investor Relations team (Andrew Duncan & Anna Carduck) at a coffee point at the Grünenthal headquarters
Trust is the most important currency for investors. But how do people at Grünenthal earn and build that trust? Two representatives from our Investor Relations team share insights into their daily work of creating long-term, successful relationships with the financial community.

People across Grünenthal’s teams are driving progress toward our vision of a World Free of Pain. It will only be possible to achieve that vision if we create strong connections with current investors – and attract potential new investors as well. Two colleagues from our Investor Relations team answered questions about how they manage those important interactions: Andrew Duncan (Deputy Head of Treasury and Head of Investor Relations) and Anna Carduck (Senior Investor Relations Manager).

What are the main responsibilities of the Investor Relations team at Grünenthal?

Anna: Everything we do is about building trust in Grünenthal to secure our company’s long-term financing. We share information to provide strategic and financial transparency, which allows us to create strong relationships with Grünenthal’s financial stakeholders.

Andrew: We also help to ensure Grünenthal complies with regulations related to financial information at all times. And we work closely with colleagues across the business to lead new capital markets-related projects such as issuing bonds for Grünenthal in 2021 and 2023.

How do you interact with people from the financial community?

Andrew: We are always open for dialogue via email or telephone – and we place a sharp focus on responding quickly. Beyond this, we hold four conference calls each year to discuss quarterly financial performance, plus an annual review call with three ratings agencies. And our team is present at events too. It is fascinating to hear what financial stakeholders say about our company.

Anna: It is a two-way communication because investors provide information that supports our work. They share insights into our industry and market conditions. We use feedback from our financial stakeholders to improve our reporting and proactively address the topics they raise with us.

What makes Grünenthal an attractive company for investors?

Anna: Most importantly, Grünenthal is delivering on its promises for financial performance. We also have very stable and risk-aware ownership, combined with a clear two-part strategy that targets innovative R&D and acquisitions of established brands.

Andrew: In addition, pain is a growing and underserved segment of the pharma industry. That makes Grünenthal attractive to investors. And our Corporate Responsibility Programme is another key factor because it is essential to conduct business responsibly in order to attract investment.
