Family feelings and innovative treatments for pain patients

Marco Najar is a trained optician. And even though his career path has changed direction and led him into pharmaceutical sales, his daily work still involves sharp focus and a clear vision. “I feel useful when I help people to have a better life,” he says. “That is what motivates everybody in Grünenthal’s teams around the globe. And it inspires our shared vision of a World Free of Pain.”
While Marco’s professional journey has followed an unusual route, it is not entirely surprising when you consider his family’s close connection to the pharma industry. His father was a medical sales representative. His sister works in this field too. Now, Marco compares the positive atmosphere at Grünenthal Spain to the warmth of a family unit. “The way we treat each other here is like no other company I have ever known,” he says. “There is a spirit of collaboration that extends across departments and geographical borders. Every team member is truly valued and supported.”
The former optician has seen big changes in pain treatment since joining Grünenthal in 2009. In particular, he describes how younger doctors use more holistic knowledge of pain when treating patients. To further expand that knowledge, Marco provides continuous training for healthcare professionals who are involved in pain management. “Our training topics cover the full range of specialisations – from nursing to pharmacy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation,” he says. “This holistic approach makes sure every patient gets the best possible treatment that considers multiple angles to accurately diagnose their condition and identify the optimal pain medication.”
Innovation is another key focus topic for Marco. He emphasises the importance of exploring research and development projects with the potential to provide more effective treatments for pain patients. “Our global-leading medicines improve quality of life for people in pain,” he says.
That excitement about the future is characteristic of Marco’s attitude to his work at Grünenthal, where he has now spent 15 years supporting better outcomes for pain patients. “I felt so motivated by our company’s vision on my first day in our team and I still feel motivated by it today,” he says. “Grünenthal is like a family and I am so happy that my career has led me here. Together, we are making a truly visible positive impact on the lives of pain patients – and their families too.”
