Raise Disease Awareness on this year's IASP world congress on pain

IASP 2024 World Congress on Pain
The 2024 world congress on pain, held in Amsterdam, brought together more than 5,000 visitors from over 130 countries – and our team was in the thick of it.

This event, which started as the ‘International Symposium on Pain’ in May 1973 in Issaquah, a town about 20 miles east of Seattle, has grown into the largest gathering of pain professionals globally.

Grünenthal shares more than 50 years of engagement in the area of pain with the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). At this year's congress. Our colleagues engaged with HCPs and clinicians, presented Grünenthal as a leader in the area of pain and initiated progress for patients around the world to move closer to our vision of a World Free of Pain.

Raising awareness for PNP and supporting a good cause

At our booth, we invited attendees to take a quiz around painful neuropathic pain (PNP). With questions ranging from the prevalence over diagnosis all the way to treatment related aspects, it was a strong display of how challenging the condition can be for patients. Each correct answer resulted in a donation to Diabetesvereniging Nederland (DVN) supporting a disease awareness campaign.

After taking the quiz, attendees could experience PNP symptoms themselves with the symptom box, allowing them to experience the tingling, cold, burning, stabbing, electrical shock like symptoms of PNP. This raised awareness among the participating physicians of how patient may experience the condition and how difficult it can be to describe the symptoms. We hope that this glimpse into the burden of PNP helps HCPs in their interactions and communication with patient and facilitates understanding for patient’s descriptions of their symptoms.

A big thank you to everyone who made the IASP world congress on pain 2024 a memorable experience. We were delighted to make new contacts, strengthen old connections and spend inspiring days with a fantastic community that shares our vision of A World Free of Pain.
