Since 2010, the E-G-G is announced biennially, the award ceremony as well as a show case symposium on the results of previously awarded research projects will be arranged on the occasion of the biennial EFIC®-Congress.

The Scientific Research Committee of the European Pain Federation EFIC® reviewed 70 applications submitted in the competition of the E-G-G 2016 program and judged six project proposals to be the best for funding. Global criteria for selection took into account the highest scores, but also other important aspects including excellence and diversity in terms of subjects, areas of research, originality and potential clinical impact.

The award ceremony was held during the 10th Congress of the European Pain Federation EFIC® ‘Bringing Pain Relief to all Patients ’, Copenhagen, Denmark on 6 September 2017.

“To reach our goal of ‘Bringing pain relief to all patients’, the subject of this year’s EFIC® congress, we are hoping that these young scientists’ pain research projects can contribute to relieving the pain of millions of people,” Professor Bart Morlion, President of the European Pain Federation EFIC®. commented. He emphasized the development of pain in a broader perspective as a contextual-, lifestyle- and environmental-related disease: “Due to lifestyle changes, which often have the potential of manifesting themselves at a very early age, we have to consider new avenues of multidisciplinary cooperation and pain research on a pan-European level.”
