Growing at Grünenthal: From apprentice to sourcing manager

Laura Wasser, Sourcing Manager DACH at Grünenthal
Grünenthal puts a strong emphasis on giving employees opportunities for growth. But how do we turn those good intentions into real-world actions? Laura Wasser, our Sourcing Manager DACH, is the perfect person to share her experience of growth at Grünenthal…

“I began an apprenticeship as an Industrial Management Assistant at Grünenthal eight years ago,” she says. “At that time, I felt like the company was putting a lot of effort into providing valuable insights into daily work across a wide range of business areas. And there was a truly open and friendly atmosphere from Day One, which really empowered me to pursue my development ambitions.”

That commitment to professional development was a big factor in Laura’s decision to launch a career at Grünenthal. But she had personal reasons too.

“The shared mission to fight against pain really resonated with me,” she says. “As a young adult, I struggled a lot with migraines. There were days where the pain was so intense that it stopped me doing the even very simple things. Those experiences showed me the value that pain patients get from accessing the right medication. And that gives meaning to my daily work at Grünenthal.”

Laura has gone from strength to strength in our Global Procurement team. Now, she works as Sourcing Manager DACH. Together with her colleagues, Laura manages several important tasks.

“Grünenthal is a big company that needs regional and global partners,” she says. “In our team, we find the best possible partners and then negotiate contracts to optimise the way Grünenthal’s uses its resources.”

Flexibility is another aspect of working at Grünenthal that carries special importance for Laura. Alongside her job, she is also studying Business Consulting and Digital Management.

„Possibilities for flexible working are increasingly important factors in career development. Grünenthal recognised this several years ago and now offers a variety of ways for employees to adapt their role depending on their unique needs such as flexible work time and hybrid work models. I live in Belgium, for example, and as a cross-border commuter, I very much value the opportunity to work from home and adapt the working days in the office flexibly to my needs.”
